Depression is a very treatable
As with many types of illnesses, the earlier you seek treatment, the better. An important first step is a consultation with a doctor or mental health professional. In some cases certain medical conditions, such as thyroid disorder, can cause symptoms as depression and medical issues should be ruled out and treated first.
Treatment for Depression
The most common treatment for depression is psychotherapy and medication. It is important that your therapist or doctor know if there is a family history of depression or other mental illness (major depression, dysthymia, bioplar, anxiety, etc…) and get a thorough history of symptoms ( when the symptoms started, how long they have lasted). It is also important to discuss previous treatment for bouts of depression, including therapy, medication, or hospitalizations, etc…).
