Frequently Asked Questions

How do we pay?

Options for our clients are:

Private Pay and Out of Network Insurance Coverage

We are a private pay, out of network counseling practice (explained below) so fees are paid in full on the day of service.  Payment is accepted in the form of credit card (Visa, Discover, MasterCard, etc…).

As a healthcare provider, we are also able accept payments if you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).

Depending on the clinician and length of session, our fee schedule is as follows:

  • Range for Counseling Sessions with Our Therapists
    (45-60 min) $165-$215
  • Counseling Sessions with Our Director Debra Feinberg
    (45-60 min) $240-$310

Is there a reduced fee option?

Each month, we try to reserve a number of slots for those who cannot comfortably pay the full fee. Please let us know if you’d like to discuss this option.

Please reach out here if you have any questions for us or would like to set something up.

Do you contract with insurance companies?

Maplewood Counseling does not accept insurance directly.  You may still be eligible for reimbursement.

Why we do not accept insurance directly

We do not accept insurance directly because our therapists are specialty providers and offer care that’s based on evidence and results, not dictated by what insurance companies allow.  We are not considered “in-network” providers, but rather “out-of-network” providers. Some people have “out-of-network” benefits and if they choose to submit to their insurance they might be eligible to receive up to an 80% reimbursement from their insurance company after a deductible is met.

Another reason we do not contract with insurance companies is we are committed to your privacy and want you to have complete control over your health records. Submitting a mental health invoice for reimbursement carries a certain amount of risk to your confidentiality, privacy and future ability to obtain health or life insurance or even a job. That is why we do not directly bill your insurance. We let you decide if you want that information in your health records.

What if I choose to use my out-of-network benefits

Our billing system can automatically provide you with a receipt called a “superbill” which you may submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Please let us know if you would like us to submit electroincally for you as a courtesy. We encourage you to check with your insurance regarding the specifics of your policy.  If you’re not sure how insurance works, let us know. We want to make this process as simple as possible so you can get the help you need with the least amount of obstacles.

Questions? We’re here to help.
