Have Questions or Want to Get Started?
You may have questions or concerns about the mental health support group…
What is the benefit of group therapy as opposed to individual therapy?
Group therapy has many benefits, including the opportunity to connect with others who are facing similar struggles and gain support from them. In individual therapy, you may feel like you are facing your problems alone, but in a group setting, you have the chance to share your experiences and learn from others’ perspectives. Additionally, group therapy can be more cost-effective than individual therapy since the cost is split among the members. It also provides a safe and confidential space to practice new coping skills and receive feedback from others.
How can I join the mental health support group?
If you are interested in joining our mental health support group, please contact us through our website or by phone to schedule an initial consultation. During this consultation, we will learn more about your needs and determine if the group is the right fit for you. If so, we will provide you with more information on the start date, time, and location of the group.
What can I expect from participating in a mental health support group?
There are several advantages to joining a support group for mental health. It offers a safe environment in which you may express your ideas and emotions, find support from others, and pick up coping mechanisms. Additionally, it can help improve communication skills, increase your sense of self-worth and self-awareness, and reduce feelings of isloation and loneliness. Our skilled facilitator will lead the group talks and make sure that everyone is in a polite and comfortable setting.
Can I still join if I have never been in therapy before?
Yes, our mental health support group is open to individuals of all levels of therapy experience. Our goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive space for anyone seeking mental health support. Whether you have prior experience with therapy or are new to the process, we welcome you and will work with you at your own pace.
What if I am not comfortable sharing my personal experiences in a group setting?
We understand that sharing personal experiences can be challenging, especially in a group setting. Our facilitator will never force you to share anything that you are not comfortable with. You are free to participate at your own comfort level and only share what you feel comfortable discussing. We also encourage members to communicate their boundaries and respect each other’s privacy.
Is the support group confidential?
Yes, everything shared within the group is strictly confidential. It is essential to create a safe and trustworthy environment for all members to open up and share their experiences without fear of judgment or disclosure. Our facilitator will also remind members about maintaining confidentiality during each session.
What is the difference between a process group and a support group?
A support group is focused on providing emotional support and sharing experiences with others who are dealing with similar issues. A process group, on the other hand, focuses on exploring underlying emotions and patterns of behavior in a more structured and therapeutic way. In a support group, members may share their struggles but do not necessarily delve into the deeper reasons behind them, while in a process group, there is a specific goal of gaining insight and making positive changes. Both types of groups can be helpful, depending on your individual needs and goals.
Are there any group therapy options for specific mental health conditions?
Yes, there are often support groups specifically tailored to certain mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or addiction. These groups provide a space for individuals to connect and share their experiences with others who understand what they are going through. These groups may also have a therapist or facilitator present to provide guidance and support. It is important to do some research and find a group that aligns with your specific needs and goals.
Is it possible for me to participate in group and individual therapy?
Yes to participate in group therapy in addition to individual therapy. In fact, for the best help, a lot of mental health specialists advise combining the two. While group therapy can offer additional support and a chance to interact with people going through similar circumstances, individual therapy allows for more individualized attention and treatment planning. It could be helpful to talk about this choice with your mental health professional or therapist to figure out the best course of action for your unique situation.
What should I expect from my first group therapy session?
Your first group therapy session may feel intimidating, but it is important to remember that everyone in the group is there for support and understanding. In your first session, you can expect to introduce yourself and share a bit about why you are attending the group. The therapist or facilitator may provide some guidelines for group communication and may lead a discussion or activity. It is also common to set goals or intentions for future sessions. It is okay to feel nervous, but try to keep an open mind and be willing to participate in the group discussions.
Can I join a support group if I am receiving other forms of treatment?
Yes, you can still join a support group even if you are receiving other forms of treatment. Support groups are meant to complement, not replace, other treatments such as therapy or medication. In fact, attending support group meetings may enhance your overall treatment plan by providing additional perspectives and coping strategies. It is important to communicate with your therapist or mental health provider about any support groups you are considering joining.
What will we discuss during group therapy?
The topics discussed in group therapy will depend on the type of group and its goal. In a support group, members may discuss their struggles, share coping strategies, and provide emotional support to one another. In a process group, participants may focus on gaining insight into their thoughts and behaviors, exploring patterns and triggers, and working towards making positive changes in their lives.
How much does the group cost?
Groups are $75 (??) for each group session. Some groups may be eligiable for insurance reimbursement for people with insurance plans that offer out of network mental health benefits. A sliding fee scale is available for those who do not have or cannot use insurance.
