Help for Alzheimer’s Caregivers

Finding Help for Alzheimer’s Caregivers

It’s stressful and overwhelming to deal with the challenges of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.  Your family member may have trouble remembering what he or she had for breakfast, following a line of thought and performing daily activities seem like second nature, and we often take these abilities for granted. When Alzheimer’s disease sets in, memory loss and a host of other abilities start falling away. No person or family wants to go where Alzheimer’s disease takes them. As a caregiver, it can leave you with an enormous amount of ongoing stress, responsibility and financial obligations.

ABC News just published an article called “Women Bear the Brunt of Alzheimer’s Disease…” The article cited recently released facts from the Alzheimer’s Association:

  • One in six women develops Alzheimer’s disease
  • Two-thirds of the people with Alzheimer’s are women
  • Ironically, women are also most often the caregivers for family and loved ones with the disease

Whether you’re the individual suffering in this state or the caregiver, you face a difficult challenge. Even though other families struggle with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, you’re unique, and no one walks in your particular pair of shoes.

If you are caring for or know someone who is caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease, you can find many helpful resources below:
